Previous Portfolios
As part of my program of study at Brown, I completed a portfolio based on my student teaching experience. I completed my student teaching semester at Hope High School, an urban public school in Providence, RI. I taught two sections of English 11 and also guest-taught my mentor teacher's AP Literature Classes. This portfolio contains artifacts organized according to the Brown University MAT Program teaching standards. Highlights of this portfolio include my teacher research project, self evaluation, and reflection on the English content coursework I completed while at Brown.

One of the most unique features of Brown's Master of Arts in Teaching program is the Brown Summer High School teaching experience. During the summer term that begins the program, candidates are paired with a co-teacher and a mentor teacher to plan and teach a summer enrichment class to Providence-area 9th through 12th graders. What makes the program so special is the curricular freedom. Teachers are given only a core text, an essential question, and the requirement that the final assessment include a written portion. Then, after lessons in backwards planning based on Grant Wiggins and Jay McTighe's Understanding by Design, teachers are given the power to plan out their course. My experiences teaching this unique course are contained in this portfolio, which is organized according to the Brown University MAT Program teaching standards.
