Using YA Books to Teach for Social Justice
NCTE National Convention, 2014
Washington, DC
In the fall of 2014, I attended the NCTE national convention and presented with my program director from Brown University and three fellow alumni of the MAT program, including my Brown Summer High School co-teacher. The presentation was framed by describing how Brown Summer High School uses Young Adult novels to structure its unique curriculum. Then, each panelist introduced their views on the value of YA novels in the classroom and presented examples of classroom practice.
